Ronald Pries

Ronald Pries studied acting and voice in his home-town of Hamburg, Germany. He was subsequently engaged as an actor by Boy Gobert at the Thalia Theater. He gave his first operatic performance in 1975.

He has been working as a free-lance Character Tenor and „Jugendlichen Heldentenor“ since 1980.


From 1983-1997 his engagements taken him to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, in Hamburg, Berlin, Vienna, and Geneva. He has worked with directors John Dew, Günther Krämer, Johannes Schaaf, Gottfried Pilz, Pierre Audi and conductors Valery Gergiev, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Ralf Weikert, Gerd Albrecht and many others.

Ronald Pries holds the position of head of voice faculty and is the director of the opera studio at Carinthia’s Regional Music Conservatory since 1998. Together with Michael Weger he created the acting studio at the conservatory (KONSE) in 2006 and was director from 2006 to 2010. Currently, he is the artisc director of the HEUNBURG THEATERS in southern Carinthia.
