Terms of participation of the Accademia Belcanto voice competition

There is an age limit of 35 years (participation at birth after 01.09.1983).

 

Each participant must present 4 opera arias of free choice from the following opera composers in the original tone
and memorize them by heart:

 

  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Carl Maria von Weber, Albert Lortzing, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Vincenzo Bellini, Hector Berlioz, Mikhail Glinka, Ambroise Thomas, Richard Wagner, Giuseppe Verdi, Charles Gounod, Jacques Offenbach, Bedřich Smetana, Aleksandr Borodin, Camille Saint-Saëns, Léo Delibes, Georges Bizet, Modest Mussorgsky, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Antonín Dvořák, Jules Massenet, Arrigo Boito, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Amilcare Ponchielli, Leoš Janáček, Ruggiero Leoncavallo, Giacomo Puccini, Gustave Charpentier, Claude Debussy, Umberto Giordano, Pietro Mascagni, Francesco Cilea, Richard Strauss (other composers on demand, exceptions allowed especially for countertenors)

 

Prices:

 

1st Prize: € 5.000, - (dedicated to the Georgian composer Zakaria Paliaschvili)

2nd Prize: € 3.000, - (dedicated to the tenor Giacomo Aragall)

3rd Prize: € 2.000, - (dedicated to the soprano Lamara Chonia)

Recognition Award Young talent (up to 26 years): € 500, -

Audience Award: € 500, -

 


Persons who have already won a first prize at an international competition may enter directly into the semifinals with the presentation of official documents; we kindly ask you to send the certificate in advance as a scan by e-mail. Prize winners of a 1st place in previous competitions of the Accademia Belcanto are not admitted, all other winners may compete again.

 

Should you not be able to participate in our competition for various reasons after admission to the competition, you will receive your fee up to August 1st, with the exception of a cancellation fee of € 50, - afterwards everything will be forfeited.

 

Each participant will be provided with a pianist (Svetlana Sokolova or Tatiana Maksimova) for the competition, the rehearsals will be held at the Graz Conservatory. Those who wish to work with our pianists before the competition must register for the coaching week. The participants have the opportunity to bring their own pianist at their own expense.

 

The order of the singers for the first round will be raffled and emailed before the start of the competition. You will be notified by e-mail and via the homepage about on advance. All finalists receive a diploma and have the opportunity to sing at the Winner- Gala-Concert on September 7th. For that you get fee in the amount of € 100, -.

 

All prices are subject to statutory deductions. The prize money will be paid after the end of the last concert. All award winners undertake to attend the concerts on 7th and 8th September without any further payment - otherwise only 50% of the price will be paid. The jury reserves the right to divide every prize in case of singers of similar quality.

 

Registration for the competition is understood as a declaration of consent to the terms and conditions of the Accademia Belcanto. In the case of complaints, the terms of participation in German apply. Graz (Austria) shall be responsible for possible disputes. 

For the concert performances, ladies should wear elegant, long evening gowns and men's tuxedos or dark suits.

 

The Accademia Belcanto reserves the right to make changes to the organization and its organizational details.
